1.
a) General info

This is second version of my first level. I was trying to capture the feeling of reality
(well, I guess). And it is hard to make a good looking open area with TR engine capabilities. But
I think I've done it quite well. Before transparent textures weren't seen in some resolutions,
now this is hopefully fixed. I also inserted some sort of an intro scene.
With this level I'm starting an idea that I'm cariing with me for quite a long time. At first
I wanted to do a comic, but I stopped drawing it after the tenth page.
I'm a great fan of the first TR game, so I wanted to do something in that way, but the final
level feeling was just not the same.
Personally I don't like long levels. I also don't like long backtracking, so don't expect
anything like that. I also had a problem with enemies running in circles. I decided to simply
remove them. (I'll be more careful with level design next time). So if you enjoy a lot of
shooting, just skip this level.
After finishing and testing the outdoor part I started to build the indoor part. After
finishing that one, too, I discovered that something is crashing my outdoor part. I still don't
know what is the problem. (Now I know what it was, something with wrong texture IDs!?) The only
solution, I was able to find, was to use my previous outdoor level and combine it with the new
final version. This is the reason for the level split and why the first part is so short (Well,
now I added one more puzzle and a new area, but it's still short). You don't really have to go
back to the first part after entering the second, only if you want to enter the secret room.
I was also experimenting with different lights. In the middle of creation of this level, my
monitor exploded (nothing too serious). When it was repaired, everything looked more darker. So,
I don't know how bright/dark will my level look on other computers. (I had to put my graphic card
to a brighter tone. Gama correction is at 1.70)

b) Gameplay info
I tested the level a lot; everything should work fine (I you're the one, whome I promised to
eat my shoes if the level has a dynamite puzzle bug: - if the bug is still present, mail me, but
i won't eat the soles!). Sometimes Lara doesn't want to climb with the action button - if that
happens, first press jump and then action. I know I made some illegal slopes in the caves. But I
think you can jump out of them. (I you can't, I'm sorry, save before jumping to some strange
shapes).
If you think, that some parts of the game are extremly hard, then you're probably on the secret
path or maybe on a special, ultra hidden, hard to find, only for mindriders, non-secret, special,
you're-not-supposed-to-be-here bonus area.
In previous version of The Lost Mine Lara could be stuck in the level, because she took the
wrong way. Now she can try anything, there's always a solution.

c) IMPORTANT if playing with NO SOUND (small spoiler)

There are two scenes important for understanding the story:

The office scene:
Miss Croft. Welcome. I'm happy you decided to investigate the mine. Please take the entrance
key from the desk. The excavation site is on the other side of the mountain range. If you'd like
to go by helicopter, you'll have to wait for a week, but if you want to go imediatelly, then you
can take the jeep parked outside. But take note, that the mountain path gets quite difficult at
some parts. When you'll reached the forest, there will be a fence, which prevents the unvanted
visitors to reach the excavation site by vehicle. The switch to lover the fence is hidden in a
cave, just around the corner. i have to tell you that there was a storm last night, so some trees
may be blocking the path; that isn't so rare. About the mine. We tried to investigate the mine by
ourselves, but couldn't got any far. maybe some parts of the mine were destroyed or hidden.
Lara: Now it's time for adventure!
Of course, the jeep keys are in the bookshelf.

The forest scene:
Lara: NO! The key... (The mine key accidentally drops into the water, when crossing it. Don't
search for it, you won't find it here.)

3.
The story will be revealed in-game. But for the start: Lara is on "the vacation". She enjoys
her new small swimming-pool. Then the buttler cames out and tells her, that the phone is ringing,
but he is unable to answer, because Lara has activated the quest-house mode switch which changes
the house into a training place. But she doesn' matter. The phone doesn't stop, so she decides to
answer it anyway. After completing the puzzles, she switches house back to the
normal-house-living mode.
On the other side of the telephone wire is a well known archaeologist, telling her that he had
some problems on the excavation site; it is located behind the mountain range of the Italian
Alpes. The excavators found a hidden mine, they somehow managed to restore the electricity, so
the lights now work. But after that the excavators don't want to work there anymore. They don't
feel very well near the mine opening. They're reporting of sudden fear and bad feeling when near
it. And he felt the same.

He knows the history of Lara and her strange adventures. So he asks her if she would like to
explore the mine and find the sorce of that unpleasant feeling, because he wants to continue the
excavation. He also explains that he knows how stupid this is to hear, but also some of her
quests were just unbelievable.
Well, Lara is on vacation, ofcourse, but her adventurer spirit isn't...
She visits the caller, gets some informations and is given a key to the mine. Archaeologists
had closed it to be sure that no one goes in anymore.

Lara is at the place, but she has no luck. The key felt into the water by accident and she
just can't find it now. Anyway she doesn't intend to go all the way back for a small key. There
will just have to be some alternative way of getting into the mine.

I would like to thank to all the creators of these great tools I used. Some I was using all
the time, some were used only for a specific part used in the game, but without them this level
wouldn't be possible. Thanks!
I would also like to thank to all the people at Ezboard, Mprager and Eidos forums. (TRbuilding
is a new thing for me and you don't know how many times I was just reading what kind of building
problems you have had and finding a solution for my own)

Special thanks:

to Turbo Pascal (Somewhere I read that a man like you doesn't exist. I don't know how to
understand this but: Thanks for answering me all that long questions I had at the beginning and
for guiding me to that great TR sites on the net, that I would probably never find by myself.) ;)

to Josep Borrut (You don't know how your small hints help me. Because of your small help I was
possibly saved of some unwanted level problems, which I would probably encounter, if you wouldn't
already warned me about them.) :)

to Kristina (When I was completely lost in transparent textures and being unable to see them
unseen, you came and show me there's nothing to see... lol:). Thanks to your help I was able to
override that nasty bug. I hope it won't come out any more.)

to pimpernel (I am so happy to bump into you. I don't know what else to say. Thank you!)

***
Thanx to all who helped me to remove the transparent bug:
TP and Raider Croft for info
Kristina and pimpernel for doing some tests for me
